ALBUM LINER NOTES

PETER, PAUL AND MARY
STANDING IN A ROW
MILLION CONCERTS LATER,
STEADY ON THE GO.

PETER, PAUL AND MARY
LONG AGO THEY MET.
BACK IN SIXTY-SOMETHIN'
AIMED AT SIXTY-YET.

WITH THEIR HAMMERIN' AND BLOWIN'
PUFFIN' AND THE REST,
A GOOD THING THAT GOT BETTER
GOT RIGHT UP THERE WITH THE BEST.

AND HANDED DOWN SOME HEAVYWEIGHT
IDEAS ON OUR HEADS
IN ALBERT HALL AND CARNEGIE
OR CARS WITH NEWLYWEDS;
IN ROOMS WITH JUST TWO PEOPLE,
THEN IN BALLPARKS WITH THE PREZ.

THE FOLK BAG KEEPS ON FLOWIN',
HEAVY ELSEWHERE AS WELL AS HERE.
AND THE FOLK BAG KEEPS ON GROWIN'
SINCE MORE FOLKS ARE GETTING NEAR
TO GETTING NEAR EACH OTHER
IN A WAY THAT STILL AIN'T CLEAR.

BUT THE PICTURE COMES TO FOCUS
ON WHAT SOME FOLKS HOLD DEAR,
AND THE PROSPECT OF ITS VALUE
BEING LESSENED BY THE FEAR
THAT NOTHING IS FOR CERTAIN,
WHICH IS CERTAINLY THE CASE
WHEN BOMBS AND ICE-BLUE-SOMETHING
HAVE OCCUPIED A RACE.

BUT THE RACE IS ON TO BETTER THINGS
THAN ARMPITS AND ARMS RACE.
AND THE BIRDS ARE OFF THE GREASE PAINT,
ONTO SHOWING US THEIR FACE.

WHICH ALL BEGAN SOME YEARS AGO
WITH SEEGER AND THE REST,
WITH WOODY'S GUSTY VIEWPOINT
AND WITH MUDDY'S CLEAR UNREST.

SOMETHING TRAVELED MANY HIGHWAYS
FULL OF HEARTACHES AND BADTIMES
THEN GOT INTO A BRAND NEW SUIT
THAT SUITED BRAND NEW CHIMES.

WHICH CHIMES CONTINUE RINGING
IN A HUNDRED DIFFERENT WAYS;
THROUGH AMPS AND THROUGH GARDENIAS,
AND BENDING NOTES AND PHRASE.

SO THE GUITAR WAS THE ANSWER,
YOU COULD TAKE IT WHEN YOU WENT.
AND YOU KNEW YOU HAD TO GO AS SOON AS
SOMETHING IN YOU WENT.

AND YOU ALSO TOOK A RADIO THAT YOU
HELD UP TO YOUR EAR,
A LITTLE THING MADE SOMEWHERE WE DIDN'T
ALWAYS HOLD SO DEAR.
WHICH MIGHT HAVE MADE YOU WONDER
JUST EXACTLY WHAT GOES ON
WITH MISERABLE HISTORY,
WITH FATHER AND HIS SON.

WELL, HIPS HARPS STILL COME FROM GERMANY,
AS DID BRAHMS, BEETHOVEN, BACH.
ALL OF WHICH SCREAMS OUT OF THEM
IN THE FOLK BLUES RAGA ROCK.
SO DRINK A TOAST TO EVERYTHING
SINCE NOTHING IS FOR SURE
AND TIP YOUR GLASS TO THREE OF THEM
WHO HELP THE THING ENDURE.
