I think 99.9% of people here would say that PPM would never advocate looting, destruction of property, they have lived their lives as models for peaceful resistance, for asserting one's views even if it means going to jail. Again, no violence.|
Having said that, and I must admit I don't follow your posts, but the fervent manner you describe such behavior, is it with that same zeal that you believe justice is being compromised, and when it is, there must be demonstrations of resistance ?.....When gays are banned from places, when they have been beaten; when any ethnic/racial group is targeted and deprived of their rights, are you posting as you just did about how you want no violence. To paraphrase, you said you truly want people to be able to work things out. However, how much gusto is there when injustice stares us down ?
I think we all agree with your comments. However, do you have any wish to scream when you see young black men killed by police, one, then another, another, another, another, do you feel that without suggesting that most law enforcement officers are violent, do you not feel the imperative to have law enforcement agencies taking action against these individuals ?......Does your common sense tell you that all these killings are not simply "called for" ? .............you recall the man running away from an officer who shot him several times in the back? .....did you feel you had to emphatically decry this ?
I'd respect your views, for what that's worth I realize, if I knew that your sense of decency in not rioting is also a decency that says, STOP, and let's allow people of color to feel safe when approached by police.
I think PPM have been a model for justice, bringing sides together if they can (note: Palestinians and Israelis)....and a model for how to encourage group resistance to injustice.
