Here is something that recently occurred to me about the parodies performed by Peter, Paul and Mary in "I Dig Rock And Roll Music". The same year that song was written and released (1967), The Byrds wrote and released their hit single "So You Want To Be A Rock & Roll Star"--satirizing every cliche in the book about what it takes to become famous in the music business! The Byrds' aforementioned song was released in January 1967--seven months before PP&M released their aforementioned song. Knowing that The Byrds were a Folk Rock band (at the beginning of their career before they branched out into Space Rock and Country Rock in the years that followed); knowing that in 1967 Peter, Paul and Mary helped to expand Folk music into the Pop music world/genre; and also knowing that Noel Paul Stookey himself who co-wrote "I Dig Rock And Roll Music" was/is a Rock music fanatic, I don't suppose Stookey and co-songwriters of the given tune James Mason and Dave Dixon each had The Byrds' "So You Want To Be A Rock & Roll Star" in the back of their minds conceptually when they wrote "I Dig Rock & Roll Music"?
