Right you are, Bernie....|
~~> and here's the story:
Way back in 1961, when Peter Paul & Mary were performing at a Boston coffee house, known as "Storyville" (sp?)
there were 6 people in the audience....
the cook, the head waiter, a young waitress, and The Kingston Trio !!!
One of the songs PP&M performed was a song written by Pete Seeger, entitled:
"Where Have All The Flowers Gone".
Bob Shane (who actually dated Mary at one time) sensed a "hit" the second he heard it, and felt "Flowers" would be the perfect vehicle for The Kingston Trio.
Especially now that their acknowledged leader Dave Guard quit and was replaced by newcomer John Stewart.
The next day, Bob Shane + Nick Reynolds + John Stewart ~ headed into Capitol Records (NYC) and recorded "Where Have All The Flowers Gone".
When folks complained that The Kingston Trio STOLE "Flowers" from Peter, Paul & Mary, Bob Shane snapped back and said....
"What's all the hulabaloo? We gave 'em Lemon Tree, didn't we?" :>))
Anyhow, since Bob felt guilty, whenever The Kingston Trio performed somewhere, he'd mention Peter, Paul & Mary.
Eventually PP&M would take hold of 65% of the Kingston's market.
Upon hearing this, Bob Shane put his head down and remarked....
=> "Karma's a bitch" :>(( true story !!!
