Mary Travers (1936-2009)|
The year was 1985, when my family went to see PETER, PAUL & MARY in concert, in Florida.
Sunrise Theatre, I think it was. I've still got the tickets locked away somewhere in my filing cabinet.
Anyhow, after the concert, the 3 of them came out and Mary was sitting in a chair.
Beautiful, and as lovely as ever, Mary grabbed my little daughter, Jennifer (6), and sat her down on her lap, saying:
"I love little girls."
Jennifer still got that picture.
In fact, it's hung up on her wall for all to see.
As a hardcore PP&M fan, I never forgot that moment with Mary Travers. You know, my personal
favourite album of theirs is "IN THE WIND" ~ and I find myself fixated on 2 songs Mary sang:
1 - All The Pretty Little Horses
2 - All My Trials
When I visit my daughter Jennifer, I bring my guitar, and she joins me on both these songs.
We also sing a few KINGSTON TRIO songs, but I won't discuss this at your PP&M Coffeehouse. (hahaha)
Mary Travers reminds me of that bird who refused to be like the rest of the flock.
The magnificent bird who wanted to fly so very high and never conform to all the others.
The birds's name:
~~~ Jonathan Livingston Seagull ~~~
(please listen to the song: "Be" ~ by Neil Diamond) <> 1973
ps: Mary Travers, we will never forget you.
